CHESS
My name is Philippe Daoud and I discovered chess at the age of 7, during a stay in hospital when my room-mate taught me the rules of the game for the first time. I then joined the Cavalier de Neuilly chess club when I was 12, where I now play in the N1 national league.
A great many people have played chess at least once in their lives, and the vast majority know the game at least by name. Nevertheless, to hear the clichés circulating about chess, it would seem to be reserved for the country’s intellectual elite! I think this view stems largely from a misunderstanding of the game. Chess is no more difficult to learn than a musical instrument or any other board game.
If you learn the game step by step, methodically, it’s much easier to master the basics than it seems, and therefore to enjoy it.

ENGLISH
Discovering the world through English is now possible at Jardinet with Sophie!
In After 25 years in journalism, I decided to return to my former profession as an English teacher, having noticed that the generation of twenty-somethings was still not comfortable with the language.
My training in comparative linguistics (English-French), which I pursued to the M2 level, taught me to approach English grammar in an intelligent and fairly innovative way (‘theory of enunciation’). After realising that it was difficult to ‘turn things around’ in secondary school with pupils who were already struggling with the language, I decided to move into primary education, to tackle the problem at its root and get children on the right track from the outset. So I adapted the theory of enunciation to make it understandable for younger children.
During ten years of teaching at a school specialising in gifted children, I refined, staged and illustrated my method, as these particular pupils were themselves very creative. I then taught five times a year (in week-long sessions) for four years in a village in the Drôme region where I have ties, considering that the need for effective teaching was not limited to Paris.

YOGA
Valeria Brambilla is originally from Italy, somewhere between Milan and Lake Como. After studying Educational Sciences, she worked for 8 years as a special educator in schools with young disabled children, as well as in home educational support services for families in difficulty.
Somewhat by chance (or not!) she came across a training course to become a yoga teacher with the Italian Association of Yoga for Children. Parallel to her job as a specialized educator, she began this 9-month training course. She immediately felt that this new path was a real turning point in her life.
Being able to link her work and her passion, children and yoga…it opened up perspectives that delighted her deeply. And she had always wanted to move to Paris. She started out as a home teacher for the first year. Then, once she had a better command of French, she canvassed public and private schools, sports associations, workshop centers and crèches. She has been happily offering yoga classes for children, as well as children/parents yoga classes, for almost 8 years now.
